It is my honor to serve as the new President of the Lynwood Partners Educational Foundation(LPEF) for 2024-2026, especially as an alumnus of the Lynwood Unified School District (LUSD) and a long-time Lynwood resident.

Currently, it is also my pleasure to serve our community as the Director of Recreation and Community Services for the City of Lynwood. In my role at the City, I am entrusted with providing recreational and leisure programming that meets the needs of residents and to care for its open and public spaces.

As the President of LPEF this year, my goal is to enhance the organization and its leadership, strengthen community ties, and provide more resources and opportunities for our Lynwood Unified students. In the school year ahead, together we will:

  • Award over $100,000 in college scholarships to Lynwood Unified graduates pursuing higher education at 2 or 4-year colleges/universities or trade schools.Continue to support college and career programs for students
  • Develop staffing and programming at the Lynwood Alumni Center in partnership with Lynwood Unified and the Lynwood Alumni Association.
  • Provide $20,000 in grants to LUSD teachers and counselors to enhance learning environments for our students.
  • Allocate $10,500 for the School Grant Program to enrich school spaces.
  • Continue to support the Lynwood Unified Food Pantry and Community Resource Center, which provides crucial assistance to 75 of our most vulnerable families.
  • Recognize the achievements of LUSD alumni at the Lynwood Alumni Awards Gala on February 6, 2025.
  • Coordinate the fourth annual Lynwood Run 5/10K. Last year, we attracted 855 participants and raised $70,000 for our scholarship fund. We hope to make this year’s event, scheduled for May 10, 2025, even more successful!

As a founding Board Member, I’m proud that the Foundation has raised $1,250,000 since 2015. As we move into a new year, I look forward to collaborating with the Board and Executive Director Elsa Chagolla to advance our commitment to public schools in Lynwood and continue our positive impact in the community.

Together, let's continue shaping a brighter future for Lynwood students.

Warm regards,

MarkFlores
